Ok, I'm really disappointed. I got my LMT extension tube (my SOPMOD hasn't come in yet) the other day to replace my commercial piece. After installation...
It looks like SHIT!!! It's freakin gray!
What is LMT thinking! Why...a freakin gray extension tube for a black rifle? Ooooooo...I'm pissed!
God, I hope the SOPMOD isn't gray too. It doesn't look like it is in the pictures.
(Inhale...exhale) Sorry for the rant.
I know it's just cosmetic but I do care about the form of my rifle as well as its function.
Have any of you seen the BCM extension tube? It looks BLACK to me. If I can confirm that the BCM tube is in fact black, I will send my LMT back.
Thanks for your help and again, sorry for the rant. I just waited in anticipation for a week...man, what a let down.

Most of them are black. I don't know why the LMT are gray. It is up to you, if you can find the BCM in stock and want to get the black ones, then go for it.

Right on! Are there any quality differences between LMT and BCM tubes? As important as form is to me...function is still the most important.

To some people it is important. I know a guy that has a Bushmaster lower and he won't settle for anything other than a Bushmaster upper. It doesn't matter that he can get something better for less.

Personnally I would need to see it and see if I liked the contrast in the colors, if I didn't I would do something about it. The options would include send it back or to rattle can it.

It's a very lite faded gray. Yah...I'm going to send it back. I just ordered a BCM 6 position Mil Spec tube. BCM seems to have pleased a lot of people. And here I sit, in anticipation...once again! I did my research this time though...ha!

For what it's worth I have two LMT assembled lowers....one is deff gray and one is black. The black one I got first (sometime last Oct) and it has (obivisouly) a lower serial number. I just picked up another one today that has a build date of 4/9/09 per the inspection tag and it has a gray tube. I can post pics if you like.

So...I called JTAC. After a quick conversation I canceled my BCM order. I decided to take a chance with the ol' Dremel. Using a buffing attachment, I buffed the hell out of the LMT tube until it was black. It looks good but now it's polished instead of matte. Screw it! I'm just going to send my rifle to LTM Refinishing LLC for something like this...

The picture came from fivepointoh on AR15.com where he posted a fantastic "how to" DIY. I'm not an artist so I'm going to outsource...haha!
Now my question is which finishing product should I have LTM use? CeraKote, DuraCoat or KG GunKote?

DuraCoat looks nice.If you can post who you send it to and rough cost. I would like to do this also and am debating DIY or sending it off.

Believe it or not...that's Krylon paint. That rifle looks freakin sweet but I want a finish that is a little more durable than Krylon. That's why I'm trying to get opinions on the three finishes I listed above.
I planned on e-mailing that picture to LTM for a quote. I'll post the info that they send me.

I got a reply from LTM today. Here is what was said...
"Chris, For the Multicam pattern DuraCoat is the best option. I can match the colors and once cured it's as durable as the ambient version of CeraKote. The cost would be $520.00 + return shipping. The rifle on my home page is mine. I made mine a little more defined. I can fade it more with less defined edges and shoot some matte clear over it to add to the faded look. It won't look identical to that rifle, no two are. However it will be very close."

So, it will look similar to his rifle...

...but not so vivid. That's what I want.
