I love tactical flash lights. Living out in the country, I use them nightly. At the moment I have 2 leupold lights one 2 cell and one 3 cell.

I also have two surefire 6p lights. I've been noticing all of the new options for upgrading them to LED. There are several companies offering upgrades. I'm wanting one upgrade for maximum brightness and the other for general use. These are the options I've found so far searching here and on the web.

I also noticed one of the companies carries upgrades for maglite. http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/dropin-mod-dropin-lamp-assembly-for-maglite-c-1_25.html

I would love to here opinions on different lights and upgrades. It's hard to tell just on specs and numbers how they will perform in real life. Thanks ahead of time for comments and suggestions.

My 6P LED works fine with the Surefire LED. I have two remaining Surefire incandescents I plan to upgrade to LED also. I'm leaning towards buying from TNVC from their positive AR15.com feedback, and they're also a sponsor here. Maybe Vic will visit this post and share with us.

Exactly. I've been reading up on replacement lamps like you have. Another source may be Brightflashlights from ARFCOM. Kevin from Brightflashlights joined this forum a while ago but hasn't posted anything in a while.

I figured I'd chime in since this is a topic I have a lot of knowledge about (I'm a serious flashoholic) and I noticed those links you mentioned were from my other post... :a01:

First off... If you would like to learn a lot, and I mean A LOT, go to Candle Power Forums and start reading... It is the equivalent of this site but for flashlights... It is truly overwhelming...

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/portal/index.php

Ok... So... Malkoff Devices is an incredible company... Gene Malkoff makes the absolute finest dropins period, bar none, but you do pay the price.. His D Maglite dropins are incredible, when he says he can light up a reflector at over a quarter of a mile, he isn't joking... With mine, even at 100 yards, you will see spots for a good 4-6 seconds after looking into it...

My advice for anyone who wants to get into flashlights is to first buy a host that is compatible with P60 dropins... They are the most common, they are constantly being updated with the best and newest LED's, and since this is an AR site, who doesn't like modular and modified stuff? Everyone always says to buy a Surefire 6P, but IMHO the best thing to ever happen to flashlights is this... http://www.solarforce.hk/PRD/main.jsp It is a surefire 6P clone host... Meaning you buy just the metal body and then pick the dropin of your choice and the battery of your choice (these bodies are bored out to fit lithium 18650's which are amazingly better than CR123's, but will still work with CR123's if you so choose).
They go for around $15-23... Then pick a P60 dropin... Here is a huge compiled list...

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=217252

The Wolf Eyes, Dereelight, Lumens Factory, and Malkoff's are some of the best...
I just recently bought 2 of Dereelight's R2 3SD (3 Stage Digital) dropins and they are very very very impressive... About 250 lumens on high and a runtime of close to 4 hours+ on 18650's which for that output is awesome... And with the click of the tailcap you can go to 50% (125 lumens) and then to 5% (12.5 lumens) which comes in very handy when you need to read a map or something of that nature as 250 lumens at 18 inches from your face is retarded... Whatever dropin that appeals to you, I would make sure you get it in a warmer tint LED... I personally can't stand bluish or purplish LED's... I always try to get the warmest one possible for the best night time color rendition and for that incan look... Something like Lumens Factory's new selected warmer tint dropins would be perfect... They are very good as well...

Anyways... Hope this helps and if you have a question about anything just shoot me a PM and I'd be happy to answer it... Peace out... Gotta pay attention to my rambling professor again... :a22:

Oh and btw... This will get you a flashlight that will absolutely destroy some surefires that are 5-6x the price... And if any of you all are really looking for something crazy... There are a couple vendors on that candlepowerforums that will build you a flashlight that will honestly beat everything, even Surefire's $4000 Beast... They have Maglite's with 4,000+ lumens that literally start fires if you put anything flammable close to their lens... Watch this...

And OP (stands for orange peel) Reflectors make a very artifact-free, smooth beam.. Which IMO is more desirable cause I'm a white wall hunter and have an obsession for perfect light distribution/flood and beam shapes... And SM or SMO (smooth) Reflectors have more throw... meaning they will illuminate objects at a further distance (relative to an OP in an identical scenario)

T77... Don't write novels to us while you're sitting in "c l a s s"... DOH

Great info though.

Okay... T77 what LED set up would you recommend for me to convert a Surefire 6Z (original metal combat light) and a newer G2 that are both still incandescent?

I'll leave the 6P LED alone for now. I like it and want to compare it to the new goods.

Ok... Well the G2, 6Z, and 6P all use a P60 lamp assembly and you both are probably using 2xCR123's to power them... So, since each battery is 3 volts... you both will need a 6v lamp assembly... Art, the only issue with upgrading G2s is due to the plastic head... High output lamp assemblies can melt it, but this drop-in http://www.bugoutgearusa.com/crq5drmo.html can be used in a plastic headed G2 no problem... It has gotten great reviews and is the hot shit for a G2... The other option (the more expensive one) would be to get an M60L from Gene at Malkoff Devices... http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/m60l-low-output-to-fit-surefire-p-8.html It won't be as bright as the bugout, but it will have better runtime and will be of higher quality... It could outlast you :a22:

Now for the 6Z and 6P: I would recommend this...

http://www.lumensfactory.com/cart_detail.php?id=98
or this
http://www.lumensfactory.com/cart_detail.php?id=68

or what I just bought...

http://www.dereelight.com/module-list.htm and its the 3SM with the R2 LED and OP reflector... I emailed and asked for the warmer tint version and I have been very impressed with the both of them... I took my girl on a trip to florida two weeks ago, we had a condo on the 9th floor beach front, and we were lighting people up on the beach at night easily 100-125 yards away... We could see them clear as day and could even tell what they were wearing :a01: The ones trying to get freaky on the beach were not too happy some assholes on the 9th floor were spotlighting them:a39:
