Fitting a recoil pad

I'm about to restore my No.4 MK1 sporter, and need a new recoil pad. I've never done a grind to fit pad, and would appreciate some advice on doing this. I'd like to do it myself, but want it to look good.

I is really easy. USe the old one as a template and cut ouside the line. might be 1/8"-1/16" extra.
Then slowly with the belt sander shape it and finish it.
Make sure you protect the stock with some heavy duty duck tape or something.
Can also use the old one as a guide if you don't mind scuffing it so you don't have to get close the actual stock.
It is easier when one has a new stock since one can finish it really well before finishing the wood.
But it should look pretty good when done.
The main thing make sure you choose the right pad that when you cut it is designed to be cut where you
want it cut and not something that is going to show the internal ribbing or injection pattern of the material.
Normally they have plenty of relief with extra material so they can be cut and adapted to all sort of profiles larger and small.
