picked up a new MEGA billet lower and figure I will SBR it before the Change. Anyway what is the best barrel length for the 6.8 SBR? I have a 6.8 SOCOM2 and a Sandman L but that is still in jail

Best depends on purpose. I think most popular is the 12.5". I've got one and love it as a compact hunting carbine. Others are running as short as 8.5". I also have a 14.5" barrel that needs an upper (they were on sale) and am building a 10.5" currently as a dedicated CQB rifle.

What will the primary purpose of your SBR be?

dang good question, I wanted to get started in the SBR game and I was told to use the shortest functioning barrel length, because then I can use any barrel length that was longer. I have a few pinned 14.5s in 6.8 and 5.56 already and I seem to shoot them more than the 16" and 18" barreled rifles.
I was thinking something short to keep in the truck

Buy the barrel length you want from the get go, you can still use whatever upper you want on it afterward.

1 have an 8.2 and 2 12.5" ARP's and for an SBR I prefer the 12.5" to hunt with.

I was thinking 12.5 inch as Mega is coming out with a 9" megalithic upper this fall and I think that would be a perfect match

H's 12.5" mid gas is my choice.

I do not think you, or anyone for that matter, would be unhappy with a 12.5" 6.8. And like semi_cop said, you're not stuck with the original barrel length. You can swap uppers as you wish and as long as you still have the original, no additional paperwork required. Enjoy.
sweet and thanks for the help. this forum has always been the best
My 6.8 sbr is a 12.5". I think most will agree it's the best all around length for sbr 6.8's. I have shorter SBR's in other calibers, but for a 6.8 12.5" is the way to go.
