Does federal offer a 6.8 loading? I never heard of one but know of a guy online who is claiming to have federal 6.8 brass for sale. Just wondering if they offered a loading.

The last I heard, Federal was saying that they were staying out of the 68 business for a little while. But on a side note, I would ask to see the brass. if its federal, please post up

Doesn't look as if the deal will go through. He wanted almost .40 cents a piece for the once fired remington and federal brass. I pointed out to him that I could get SSA unfired for .42 cents each. He dropped his price to about .32 cents each. Still too much for me to pay for remington brass. I believe that the remington brass was .25 cents each unfired when they were selling it. I offered him .25 cents each shipped for the brass, which seems like a fair going rate for once fired. I don't believe that he's going to accept it though.

I would like to get my hands on several thousand cases by the time my extreame arrives. I'm not going to pay out the nose for it though. I'll wait for SSA plinking loads to come out and just reload my brass. I will pick up a deal if I see one though.

If he does accept it, I'll make sure to ask him about the federal brass and make sure that the brass is indeed 6.8 spc.

As far as I know, Federal is not offering a commercial load for the 6.8mm. My wife works at the commercial plant in MN and I looked through all of their current offerings but found none. It's unfortunate since ATK owns Speer and would have easy access to bullets. That plant does make the majority of the bullets for their own loads, though.

Quick Update: I had my wife ask her boss about this and he did some looking. As of now, Federal has no plans to produce a 6.8mm offering. Too bad as they have access to some decent bullets.

Thanks for the confirmation. Many of us would like Federal to get into the 6.8 business. SSA is still the preferred brand, but having Federal on board would be nice also. I pretty much use Federal ammunition for my 308 and 5.56s.

I'd put pennies on the dollar that the online guy meant Remington. Likely a moment of memory lapse.

I spoke to a Federal / ATK engineer at the Shot Show and he indicated that the 6.8 had been discussed at several of their internal meetings but that as of January 09...no plans had been made to produce the round.

He did express interest in the round and I directed him here.

FWIW, I did point out a few of the commercial advantages of the cartridge, provided a list of companies who currently produce 6.8 loads, and listed some of the companies producing 6.8mm rifles. My wife's boss is a good guy (gave me a tour of the whole plant) but he's the EHS Director and doesn't have much say in new product development.

There's always hope.

It would be nice to see Federal 6.8 ammo. They make some great (albeit expensive) match ammo in their Gold Medal line.

Anyone know if Federal has improved their .223/5.56 brass? The stuff is notorious for loose primers after only a couple reloads. Seen too many problems on the firing line to bother with it.
