I have several of them, both the flat sided and the new forward assist style. Very good quality with a silky smooth exterior finish. I also have a lot of their lowers. I would also prefer the M4 ramps but they don't have them so I run what they brung so to speak. The standard barrel extension has always worked well in my rifles, I just prefer the little extra help getting the round in the chamber that the M4 style provides.

Their lower pin holes come slightly oversized so I use 1.555 pins from K&N or JP Rifles oversized pins. They will just fit, which is the way I like it. I've heard that this is new phenomena and that they formerly were too small. He got tired of complaints and opened them up a little. A little too much, but nothing that can't be fixed with commonly available aftermarket parts.

As far as weigh is converned I don't notice much difference. They are heavy duty and very stable looking, but not overbearing. If you want too much of a good thing take a look at Alexander Arms side cocking uppers. Because the design looks so similar to Sun Devils I purchased two.....just because I liked Sun Devil's. WOW are they huge, I don't know who made them but they're overkill. I used them for spaceguns where weight wouldn't matter.

No experience with the upper, but I got rid of my lower.

Hole sizes were too big, and even the larger pins I tried didn't work (hammer pin walked out while shooting). I talked to Dave (i think thats his name) and one of the gunshows, and he didnt give a shit.

Piss poor customer service gets you chucked out the door any day.

Also, LaRue uppers are available with feed ramps - Mine has them. Just can't get them direct from Larue that way, need to go through someone else (I got mine from G&R tactical).

Here's my recently finished 6.8 build (my first 6.8) on a Sun Devil upper and lower. I just got the upper back from ADCO, so I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

The upper is stout, but I wouldn't say that it is heavier than my MUR. No problem with the pin holes (upper/lower purchased as a set), though I am also using KNS hammer, trigger, and pivot pins. The upper looks and feels solid, and the extra screw in the lower really tightens down the upper to lower fit.

I hope to get to the range in the next week or so and will try and post a write up soon after. I've lurked around the site for a while now, picking up little pieces of wisdom and ideas along the way. As the budget has allowed, the parts have slowly come together. Looking forward to a little range time rather than the bench.

exactly. Vltor will not even take an order and I need a stiffer receiver for the 6mmBR Highpower and Varmint uppers.

Thanks Art I'll check into those.

The blue receiver above looks pretty cool for a highpower rig.

H have you checked with Jim about Firebird uppers? IIRC he was going to make another run.
no I haven't, I may be able to do those as a special order but they are very expensive and believe it or not I think most highpower guys use DPMS lo-pro slick side uppers to keep the cost down.
I talked to Jim for a few hours one night, it really seems like a great product.

I like the SunDevil but wished it had M4 ramps.

The 6mmBR is a pretty big round to stuff in a AR15, I just want the stiffest receiver that makes sense to use.

I recently purchased 2 matching sets of upper/lower Sun Devil receivers for my builds. I am extremely satisfied with every aspect of the slick side uppers other than the lack of feedramps (which ADCO is taking care of). In comparison to a regular forged A2 upper, it is not much heavier at all and is substantially beefier... Like borderpatrol said, the anodizing is very high quality and is very slick. The inside of the upper feels like it is even further polished when compared to the exterior and as a result the BCG moves really well inside the receiver. The fit between the upper and lower is what I would call perfect. In both of my sets, there was no gap and no play between the two receivers. I didn't have any problems with pin holes/sizes like other users were posting. Overall, I am impressed with the quality and for $250 a set, you can't go wrong.

Although some may be displeased for whatever reason...I would recommend them to anyone.

They are bulky but for a reason... I compared them to the vltor billet upper and they looked bulkier.
Apparently a round blew in one and the upper was still serviceable whereas a forged unit would have been ca-poot...

I have 2 slick sided versions with m4 ramps dremel'd in by TimW. My Xtreme upper is being built on one as we speak.

I dont notice the weight but then again the buly may offset the weight of the ss barrel I have... I dont notice.

If you use a bolt catch with a larger pad there may be problems with fit... I had this issue with a dpms tactical bolt catch but nothing a few minutes and a dremel couldnt solve.

For the price tag they cannot be beat...

In reference to the lowers... I use jp enterprizes .156 oversized anti walk pins on both my lowers with no fitting issues... its nice and snug with no play or wiggle... I like that...
I also have used the KNs push button pivot and takedown pins as well as the YHM large know pull pins and have had 0 problems... the KNS pins fit much tighter which I like... the tensioning screw also helps with fitting.

I did have to dremel the inside of the palm swell attachment for my MIAD grip due to the bulk but that was no sweat.

Once again... for the price they cant be beat... I got mine for around 140.00

H.... you wont be dissapointed... put those ramps in there yourself... TimW found it pretty easy to do on mine...

If these phuckers can survice a blown cartridge in the chamber and live to shoot another day...thats enought beef and bulk for anyone.
