I am building up a lower and am down to waiting for my stock to arrive and I have an extra part (que dramatic music). It looks like the buffer retainer but it is shorter, smaller in diameter and the portion that would hold the buffer is shorter also. I can take a pic if this would help. I looked at a bunch of LPK pictures on google and none show the part I am talking about. It is a kit for a 556 lower NOT a 308. Thanks for any and all help.

Yes that is the picture I used along with a print out off ar15.com on how to assemble it. It looks like #26 but smaller. I will try and take a picture tonight when I get home form work. Thanks.

I don't think it is the bolt catch buffer. Part of the bolt catch buffer fits inside a spring this is hollow and would allow a spring to fit inside it. Here are some pics I took of it sorry if they are blurry it's the best I could do.

Edit: I guess I can't post pics yet. Oh well hope these pics help.

Selector detent?
Rear takedown detent?

Have you done a function check?
Do you know what things are supposed to feel like or have another lower to compare to?

If you don't have the stock mounted, you won't be able to put in the rear takedown spring and detent, as the stock holds them in place.

Good Luck!
