Just got back from visiting my local FFL guy. He was at a vendor show in Louisville KY this past week. He brought back quite a few '09 catalogs from various manufacturers and one was from DPMS. So, I thought I'd peruse the magazine to see what was new and low and behold - about halfway through on its own page was prominently displayed a 16" and 20" complete 6.8 rifles. I thought a rep from DPMS told one of us that they were no longer going to offer the 6.8? They must have had a change of heart. Of course there was no mention of what type of chamber they come with. I'm assuming still the saami. :?

I guess it wouldn't be wise to drop a caliber that's growing in popularity? Did they ever officially announce they were dropping the 6.8 or was it a rumor to test the waters? I can't recall the details.

If they would revise their chamber and maybe offer a midlength they would be one of the best values for the money. Just the chamber mod would really move DPMS up in the standings.

I'd have to a bit of searching, but it was one of our members that was "harassing" (meant in jest) DPMS about changing the chamber to either the DMR or SPCII - hard to believe that some people would actually push a manufacture to improve their product huh  - Especially from this crowd :p .The response was that they were no longer going to offer the 6.8.

Found it:

We are dropping the caliber because of lack of orders for that particular model. If we were keeping the 6.8 SPC we would be changing to the SPCII chambering. We are not canceling your order, but it will not be offered in our new catalog.
Thanks,

Maybe they have leftover barrels? They have 1:11 twist which is good, and all they need is to revise the chamber. I ran across a DPMS 6.8 M4 upper a few months ago for $599 at a gun show. The guy working for the dealer was clueless about the upper when I asked him about the 1:11 barrel. I didn't buy it because the Xtreme upper, even the newer Stag offerings offer more for the money. If it had been discounted enough, I may have bought it on a whim.
