I think most of the VX1 VXII have a 1 inch tube... you usually have to specifically order a 30 mil tube

Thanks A, what about the Mark series?

Most everything I see on the web seems to come with 30mm tube.

I guess the reason I am asking is that I am getting ready to order my Larue mount and need to know what size rings to get.

Maybe I should just wait and buy the scope first

I would pick the scope, then order the mount 8) Larue seems to be pretty good about keeping thier stuff in stock.

The 30mm scopes are suppose to be stronger and have more internal movement...

I usually buy 30's when I can.

Who else makes a decent scope and offers a 30mm main tube without the Leupold price tag?

I would rather buy a LT104 in a 30mm in case I ever upgrade to a Leupold with 30mm main tube.

On the other hand I could just be patient and wait for one to come up used.. 8)

I think you have the right thought, if you plan on upgrading to a better scope in the future and dont want to buy another mount (which I can understand at 200 plus dollars a pop, even though you could probably sell one used and make most of ti back) then I would get a 30 mm mount as the high end scopes are going to be 30mm, or at least have the option of a 30mm tube.

For $500, the Horus Hawk would be nice on an SPR Rifle.
I have never heard of these. Checked out their website seem pretty nice. Have you used one of these?

Thanks everyone for the replies!
Yes. We had two in the 6.8 class. Dar1 and J.Boyette had one. Great scopes for the price. Very easy to use.

Leupold makes several very good scopes with a 30mm illuminated reticle for under $600. The VX-III 1.5 X 5 Illuminated comes with a German #4 style or a duplex crosshairs. They also have a dot inside of a circle illuminated scope.

The Leupold European series also offers 1.5 X 5 with a 30mm tube for under $600 illuminated.

For $400 to $500 they have non illuminated 30mm scopes in both styles. Very good glass with 1/4" adjustments (which I prefer) on the VX-III line. The Euopean line has mm adjustments which will not matter if you plan to zero it at a set range and use Kentucky windage/elevation everywhere else.
