Hi everybody,

well this is my first post here and im trying to learn a little more about the 6.8. i have built a couple ar's and i want to build a 6.8 next. i am trying to decide between the xtreme and the mk68 recon. i want to set it up with a bipod and scope for doing more distant shooting. would like it to be pretty accurate but reasonably priced. the way i understand it the main difference is the recon has a match barrel? which would you recomend? were do the two different rifles shine? thanks in advance.

The Recon is 4150 CM Chrome lined with a Lightweight profile, whille the MK is LW40CW chrome lined with a Recon Profile.

The Xtreme is 4150 CM Chrome lined with a Lightweight profile.700/.600, whille the MK 68 is LW40CW lapped match barrel that has been chrome lined with a Recon Profile.760/.600.

The MK68 is also polygonal rifling where the Xtreme is 5R rifling.

thanks so far for the replies. so does that mean that the recon is going to be more accurate at distance. im assuming the recon will be a little heavier too! Is it worth the extra cash, it seems most people go with the xtreme. so it seems the main difference between the two are the barrels.

The MK68 Recon is a better barrel and is more expensive, it may be available sooner than the Xtreme other than that it is a personal choice.

The MK68 barrel is heavier but its also basically a match barrel that has been chrome lined. It should be more accurate. The MK68 is definately a step up. As for it being owrht the extra money that is completely a persona decision. What are you using it for? How well can you shoot? Do you reload? What optic are you going to be using? What is your skill level?

thanks guys that answers my questions. i would say im an intermediate shooter but still learning a lot. im not into reloading yet but i am keeping my eye out for a used set up. i will mainly be using it for a paper puncher. the outdoor range i use has steel targets out to about 800yds. i have a couple of m4 and i would like to have something a little more accurate with a little more range.

I hope the Recons will arrive in June and the 2nd round of Xtreme barrels in July.

each of us will get 75-100, maybe more if I can get them, kind of depends on when they run out of blanks.
We should have been getting 100/month but some big dogs ordered 10000 and they forgot all about us :lol:

Ah I see, so are they even planning on fullfilling the exhisting Xtreme barrel orders that y'all placed? Who makes the Xtreme bareels anyway?

Constructor, I ordered my Extreme around the 20th of March. If I switched to the MK68 Recon would it be here sooner or about the same ?

I think is really going to depend on what parts your looking for and of course the parts that come in from the other companies.
