Anybody on the forum running a dedicated .22lr upper on one of their lowers? I went to the range today and shot my Dad's 10/22 and it's a blast to shoot and got me thinking a dedicated .22 upper might be kind of fun to have around.

So what do you guys think, buy a 10/22 or buy a dedicated .22 upper and play with it?

I would almost suggest the 10/22. Its a gun designed around that round and it is cheaper than a dedicated upper. But having said that, them darn Spike uppers are just so darn cool
I think the 10/22 is the more pratical application but I like the "tacticool" look of the Spikes .22 upper :). Plus I think it would be hilarious to go to the range and slap the .22 upper and start shooting that around the "fuds", they will have their laugh and say "I knew that .223 etc..is weak" and the slap on the 5.56 or 6.8 and get to work and turn some laughs into wtf!!

I just shot them an email, asked about price, preorder, and when their receivers will be available. So if I can guestimate cost on what they have listed here is my best guess:
Receiver: 485ish
10/22 Ruger as a sacrifice: 200
AR15 stock kit: 55

740

OR...get a Tapco stock and slap the ruger 10/22 parts in it to get a cheap plinker.

10/22 Ruger: 200
Tapco Stock: 89

I'm not sure I get those 10/22 kits. If you already own an AR in another caliber why not just get an upper in .22 for it? That way you're at least getting practice with your same trigger and other controls. We were shooting the boy's 10/22 on Saturday and it reminded me just how horrendous, and unlike the AR, the 10/22 trigger really is.

no to go off subject too much but where in heck are you guys getting $200 10/22's. i build custom 10/2's and smith the parts and am always looking for cheap ones to use for doners. the "cheap" ones are $275 around here.

Very valid point, the Zimmerman setup is supposed to feel like the ar15 but I can't confirm that as they are not available yet. When it comes down to it I think just getting a Spike .22 upper to plink with is the way to go.

I sitll think it would hilarious to take the .22 upper to the range and shoot off a couple hundred and all you here is..pew pew pew, then when no one else is looking switch out uppers and get BANG BANG :D

Most of the local gun shops around here are 199.

I used to like to take my .22 AR to the indoor range (rifle ammo forbidden) and look at the faces on the other shooters until they heard the first shot.

REmington is supposed to have a 22 version of their r-15 available at Gander mtn and thru Ellet dist.
I haven't seen the price yet but the gun looks just like an AR.
I'd like to see one in person and see the price-Anyone else see these?
