Just purchased a Daniel Defense M4 Rail for my 6.8,, can someone tell me the torque for the barrel nut and the ring that holds the rail on the barrel nut? Do you need a torque wrench or can you just tighten it as much as you can and your good?

If I remember correctly, the barrel nut it is recommended to go with 45-50 ft. lbs. of torque. The locking ring for the rail, should be tightened and then snugged up. I have an older M4 rail, that has the locking ring that has the flat sides on it, instead of the cuts for the spanner wrench on it.

Check with Daniel Defense to be sure of the torque spec on the barrel nut.

The same as a standard barrel nut. At least 35 ft. lbs. minimum. Tighten then loosen three times. After the third time torque to 35 ft. lbs. check gas tube alignment. If it's not lined up continue to increase torque until it does. I usually go in 5lb. increases until a #17 drill bit held in the gas key will slide through the gas tube hole without binding or rubbing. Do not go over 70 ft. lbs. or you risk damaging your receiver. Never jerk on the wrench, smooth, steady increases in torque are what I use.

You need a torque wrench, barrel nut wrench, large vise and soft wood blocks to hold the receiver so it doesn't get damaged. A #16 or #17 drill bit for a gas tube gauge.
