While adding a new shipment of mags to my little collection a quick inspection of those already stored led to a very disapointing discovery. :x My first stainless mag purchased about 12-13 months ago (25RD 6.8 C-Products) looked a bit different through the seating holes on the side than those I was putting away. Disassembled mag found spring looked as if itwas left out in the elements for many years! Hell Ihave M1 carbine mags from WW2 that held up better. This particular magazine had a total of no more than fifty rounds fired out of it had been wiped down and stored in a very acceptable invironment for this purpose. Other aspects of this mag were all positive , fit finish and reliability were top notch wich is why I have aquired many of these mags lately. I have since rechecked all mags from many manufacturers as Ihave always maintained my equiptment and have not run across anything like this. I understand the springs from CP are not stainless and that is not abig deal to me however the condition of this spring has to be seen to be believed as these WILL fail and who has time for weekly maintenence of mag springs. That being said I have decided to switch out these poor quality springs and Ineed to know what options I have. My understanding is that these CP mags have a slightly different magpul follower becouse of the stainless const. of the bodies, does this require special spring or will GI springs from 5.56 mags work? Any help with this would be appreciated.

Cheap CS springs sort of defeat the purpose of increased spring life compaired to SS springs if they rust out before their time!

This isn't the first time I've heard the rusted out springs complaint with C-Prod mags either

Thanks for the replies, reliable input seems to be what this site is all about. :) I`ve always disassembled mags periodically for cleaning and lubrication especially with the AR platform it seems they can be the weak link. Please understand I`m not not trying to slam C-Products as I think their stainless bodies and Magpul followers are great ,however they would benefit themselves to make a change here. (after scrubbing spring down and applying light coat of Birchwood Casey BARRICADE the rag I used was thrown out it was so rusty, this spring was deteriating badly. This was not the case with anything else in my inventory.)

I occasionally wipe down my magazines but I don't lube them because the lube can attract dirt and grime and then cause a whole new set of problems. But maybe someone will have a good reason to lube the magazines.
