Yes, from what I've read it is legal for us to buy and own BA, seen it for sale many times at funshows. Just don't wear it if your going to commit a crime, it raises the charges against you when you get busted and tried in court.

Make sure you maintain it properly. Heat and moisture are very bad for armor. Never leave it in the trunk of your car in the summer and never in direct sunlight. Also water will degrade it. Typically it is only good for 5 years which is when most police departments issue new stuff though I believe if properly cared for it will last longer, but they won't warranty it if you get shot in it after the 5 year life.

If you are talking about plate armor like what swat teams wear I can't speak to that as I have no experience with that.

Blackhawk now carries armor (vests, plates, etc). My close bud is a dealer for them. Let me inquire with him to see if he can get these, and if so, I can put together some kind of good discount for 6.8Forums members. Cold -- any thoughts on this? Anyone interested?

If you guys want to do an BA GB Im all for it.

My thoughts on BA is it goes stale depending on mfg and climate, so I'd prefer to have a agency giving me it every so often but that said, I think for high risk/emergencies its not a bad thing to have laying around.

I had been wondering about picking up a vest as well. I had seen a note on a table at the Chantilly show that the Feds were trying to ban the sale of body armor to Civies... Was there any truth to that or was it a marketing ploy?
