I love to hunt and the first thing I did when I bought my Rem 700 Police was camoflauge it. I used duracoat and 4 years later have never regretted it. I'm waiting for my new Extreme upper and I love the appearance of the "black rifle" but I feels like it stands out hunting whether its for hogs or tangos. I haven't really decided if I will camo it or not but I was just wondering how others feel about it. If you have a camo rifle post a pic and let me know what you used. If youre totally against it let me know why.

If you are installing a forend, then consider the magpul xtm rail covers and a OD or FDE drop in buttstock. You can mix and match to make a camo pattern without losing the black rifle look. After many manipulations, was unhappy with any of the foilage and I settled on a 50/50 mix of Dark Earth and OD Green. They contrast well against the remaining black. Just a thought.

i agree if you use OD green or a dark earth/coyote tan accessories such as rail covers, grips, and buttstock it will break up the outline. the biggest thing that stands out on rifles is dark colors( i.e. black) and long straight lines. if you break up the outline w/ some of these colored accessories it will be fine and still look like a "black" rifle

I just useds the kyrlon flat camo paint I buy it at walmart and I get some degreaser from the same place and wipe down the rifles before I paint. I make sure I tape everything that I dont want pant to get into off. I dont get all crazy with it, becuase one I dont have the skills to, and I dont see a need to, my rifles are used to hunt and beat around with, no need to make them crazy nice. my first paint job I just painted a base of light brown and then did 4 diagonal stripes of dark green then "blended" in the stripes with a dark brown and called it a day... that paint has been on there for 4 years.
my Ar performance upper got painted I tried to use leaves and grass but I didnt really like how it came out when it warms up I am planing on repainting it, I figure I will do a thread on it once I get time to.

I have an old wrap made of jute and cargo net (throw back from an old gillie suit project) that I can wrap around the rifle when I need it to not stand out. It works out ok for me, and if wrapped right, doesn't hinder the optics and breaks up the outline of the rifle very well (just don't set it down and get too far away, I propped my rifle up in the woods to leak and spent the rest of the day hunting the rifle).

Marinesg1012 I agree 100%. My guns are tools. They have a purpose. I have a friend that wipes his guns down every time someone else touches them. I read on this site that in some tactical combat courses the first thing instructors make you do is to throw your rifle on the ground to get rid of the "safe queen" way of thinking.

Joshuades, I used to wrap my rifles in a similar way then realized that there was hardly ever a time when it didn't matter if it stood out.

sprayed with brake cleaner to degrease and then used Krylon

I am thinking about painting my 6.8 in camo, since it is my only deer rifle. Right now it is dressed in FDE stock, grip and XTM panels, but will hopefully get the full treatment this summer.

I'm going to be gutsy and go for MultiCam on my rifle.

None of these are 6.8's, but it isn't that difficult for a first-timer to DIY on a camo job. Just degrease well and take your time. Enjoy.......

I agree, most of my guns are tools. I have some that dont see bad weather or hard terrain, but there are only a few of those and they are special to me for one reason or another....my other rifles get used if it is rainin, snowing, what ever.
308 on top and a 223 on the bottom.

I dont ussally paint the metal parts of my rifles, but thats just me.
