I used a 3-9x40 Bushie 3200 Firefly on my .223AR for hunting/plunking. I found that the firefly was a real PIA to use, had to get a flashlight out and 'charge it up' for it to glow. Right after charging it was VERY bright and not 'shooter friendly', after a short time it had a 'soft glow' and was very shooter friendly. Problem was the charge wouldn't last long so now I just use it as a standard scope and don't fool with the firefly, it's more trouble than it's worth IMHO.
I recently put a Leupold Prismatic 1X scope on my flat top AR, and will mount the Bushie on my RRA 6.8 upper when I get it,(it was ordered 1-8 from Pete at Legal Transfers), the 6.8 will be used primarily for hunting and I like a 3-9x40 on my hunting rifles.
Bottom line, the 3x9 should work out well for your general hunting/plunking needs.
