I have a 300 Saum, 20" bull, DPMS made them back in the day. The Saum was chosen over the Wsm due to the case head design and the fact it's a bit shorter. Your main issue with a magnum will be magazines. I don't use it much at all but it is a hammer for sure.

So... Where I'm at with this build is nowhere near where I started. I'm definitely going with the AR-10 platform. It's going to be a thumper, possibly even the hammer of Thor lol. But I'm between the tried and true .358 Winchester and the powerful .350 rem mag. I'm going with a 20" barrel either way. I can get parts either way, the .358 win is a bit cheaper though. If it would be a better gun, I'm not worried about the cost difference, I'm going to be buying it piece by piece and building it over the winter. Is the extra 200-400fps and the coolness factor if the .350 rem mag worth the extra cost, or for black bear at no more than 250yds should I stick with the .358 Winchester?

What can I say, I'm attracted to outdated and obscure calibers lol. I'm finding the same thing. I can get factory .358 win ammo starting about $55 a box and make brass out of .308. I found one source with .350 rem mag in stock but it's going about $115 a box and no luck on brass yet but a .350 mag ar would be awesome. I did look very close at the .450 marlin but like you couldn't find anything for it no no ammo or brass.

I was unfamiliar with available AR10 cartridges until your post. I was surprised at the lack of support for big bores like there is for the AR15 platform. Maybe because they tend to thump in both directions.
When I saw the 450 Marlin my thought was that 45-70 performance on an AR platform would be a huge winner. Apparently the market does not think so. I see where a rebated rim 45-70 Auto has been developed. I doubt if it catches on.

The availability of some of these cartridges took a bit of research, but I've found they are doable. For the ones that a barrel is not readily available McGowan is able to make most of them and KAK industries makes a bcg specially for the short action magnums which also fits the .450 marlin. The only other thing is with some of the fatter cases you will have to slightly open up the ejection port like you do to build a big bore AR-15. I believe kak also makes a special upper for that as well. I'm with you, I don't understand why there isn't more support for big bore thumpers in the larger AR-10 platform. I really want to build a hammer of Thor thumper with magnum power in an ar-10 platform. All of the cartridges that would fit the platform are buildable, but if I can't find ammo or brass it makes it kind of pointless. Some of them it looks like there is a limited run on ammo, just not available now. That's why I was considering settling for the .358 win. At least I can feed it lol.

I was looking at 358 win but it seems a little underpowered, like you said it doesn't offer much benefit over the 450 bushmaster. If you don't mind having to reload all your ammo I would look at the 375 raptor and 45 raptor. Both are based off the 308 case so standard bolts and mags. The 375 might be the next ar10 I build. The 45 has more thump but the 375 has more range.

I did look into both the raptor options and I really liked the .375, but I can't even find reloading dies for it. The .45 raptor looked cool at first, but doesn't seem to have much more to offer over the.450 bushmaster either and still uses a .452 bullet instead of a .458
