Anyone wish to do a 6.8 SPC write up for Shooting Times?

Dave Fortier asked me to do it, but I would rather not.

I am doing several pieces for him, but I feel that many others here have a far greater working knowledge and ins and outs of the round itself. I do not reload, so I am already lacking...

So, if you feel your able to write a good piece... let me know.... Tim Pack is doing one for the 6.5 G and Dave said he would like a 6.8 SPC article to balance it out.

Some of you want to do this... I just know it. so lets hear who?

Being biased is one thing but trying to keep it out of a piece is harder.

I'd hope one could remain unbiased..

Paulo, what about you?

As soon as I get rid of this flu and put the Blackberry Storm down, I will look into it. How long does it have to be?

I know there are people here that are far more technically knowledgeable than I am when it comes to the ins and outs of the 6.8SPC and how it has evolved, so I'll leave that to someone else. If someone would like me to edit the piece for grammar and such, I have written a lot of articles in public arenas (finance mostly) so I'll be happy to volunteer that way to further the cause.
+1. I do editorial review for peer reviewed journals in another field, and would happily offer my editing services.
Here's a reverse angle:

68forums members, who might not necessarily be qualified to write the piece, could gather quotations (by those who ARE) from threads here on 68forums. These could be categorized and ordered, then passed BACK to the original authors (HTR, Tim, Harrison, etc.) for THEIR review.

This would be more of a collaborative effort, and would free up "big name" guys who are likely too busy doing what they do best: developing (and shooting!) the 6.8spc. It would naturally be more cumbersome as a whole, but thinking of the number of guys who would love to be able to help out, it might not be so difficult once it got going.

This idea came to me, thinking of M4Super90 and Mark21 offering to step up in some capacity; if it has legs, perhaps one of them would be interested in drawing up a plan.

Start with an outline like this:

A. Need for better terminal ballistics in the AR platform
B. Development of the 6.8 round
C. Evolution of 6.8 chamber specs
D. Evolution of barrel specs

II. Manufacturers
A. Platforms
i. Single shot
ii. Bolt
iii. Semi Auto
B. Barrels
C. Factory Ammo
D. Reloading Equipment
i. Dies
ii. Brass
iii. Bullets
iv. Common starting loads

III. Ballistics & Energy
A. Tables
i. Short range
ii. Intermediate range
iii. Long range
B. Terminal performance

IV. Uses and applications
A. Military & LE
B. Defense

V. Summary

Start cutting an pasting posts & text under each area until it is fleshed out. Then edit for content and continuity. Throw some dialog in the intro and summary and you're basically there. Easy enough.

He said "class" and Paulo in the same sentence. Hmmm  Just kidding :D
How about something like "The Evolution of the Remington 6.8 SPC"
Brief history.
Current performance available.
Best barrel specifications for current performance. Chamber, twist, barrel length.
Applications.. Hunting, Self Defense, Military, LE. Anecdotal stories applicable.

Paulo, about 20,000 words should do nicely. Cold needs it by Friday.

I'm almost begining to feel sorry for Paulo, almost

It would be good to see some current information on the 6.8 in print. There are still too many nay sayers of the cartridge who are basing their opinions on antiquated data. The 6.8 is gaining in popularity but it is still a long ways from "mainstream". The more people find out what we already know about the cartridge the more demand hence the more availability of ammo.

How about, you write it!!!! Have Mark 21 or the other gent offering editing services edit it?
I would suggest Tim if anyone can get ahold of him :D :D ....
I think Evolution has a nice ring. It is suggestive that the 6.8spc is also an evolution for the AR platform.
I too agree with evolution.... I truly see the 6.8 as what the 556 wished it would of been or an evolution of the 556 round.....
