I did a search in this forum, but can't come up with anything.

I'm looking for a 14.5" 6.8 SPC barrel so I can silver solder a Phantom 5C2 and obtain a legal length of 16" I have this setup on a 5.56 and love it.

I currently have a WOA 16" SPR barrel (with 1-11" twist) in 6.8 and it shoots like a champ (.4 MOA or better).

I am going to build another 6.8 and want the 14.5" barrel for the intended purpose.

Does anyone make the 14.5 length in 1-11" twist?

I could buy another WOA and have it cut down, rethreaded, and recrowned, but I'd rather avoid that expense.

Thanks in advance...

Welcome aboard. That is pretty much your only option. If you want a chrome lined barrel, you can get a Stag 16" and ut it down to 14.5", which should only cost approximately $60 to do. The YHM Phantom in .308 is monstorous compared to the 5.56 version. If you get your barrel cut and re-threaded, you may want to get it re-threaded to the 1/2x28 threads so you can use the 5.56 Phantom on the 6.8SPC.

Thanks for the replies. I found AR15Barrels.com that can shorten and rethread for $45. Much better than I expected.

If I use the 1/2 x 28 Phantom 5C2 made for a 5.56, won't I need to open up the channel? Can't think of a better word at the moment, but the hole the bullet passes through won't be big enough will it?

If I have the hole opened up, will it affect the accuracy at all?

Thanks.

I would honestly stay away from AR15barrels. I would rather use ADCO Firearms. If the Phantom has to be opened up, they can do it. I would just send them an E-Mail and ask them first.

Well, I'm not going to give my business to AR15Barrels when I get emails returned "undeliverable" after I sent them to the email listed on his homepage. I decided not to spend my money with someone who can't keep their email running.

Anyway, I just bought a 14.7" barrel from CMMG.

I settled for 1:10 twist to save the cost of cutting and rethreading one. Got a hell of a deal, so I'm pretty happy.

Thanks for all the help!

What are the specs on the CMMG barrel? Who makes their barrels???

"Chamber is current SAMMI specification. Barrel is Mil-Spec parkerized and made from 4150 Chrome Moly. 5/8-24 Thread."

I ordered it stripped so I can pin a Phantom 5C2 and build it myself with the gas block, free float, etc.

No sure who makes the CMMG barrels - they don't like to tell.

CMMG did update to SPC II a while back. They have a new 6.8 barrel spec'd out but will not release information on their twist. If they stay with 1:10, they are still behind the curve. There have been several requests for a better spec'd 6.8 product from CMMG. Hopefully they are listening, because their 5.56 product offering is pretty comprehensive.

A Stag 6.8 upper sent to ADCO to be trimmed to 14.5 and have a permed 'hider on it would make a nice compact carbine. Have ADCO add M4 feedramps and that would be one of the best combinations out there for the price. Look for other current posts where Stag owners are having to add M4 ramps to their 6.8's to make them reliable with all ranges of 6.8 ammo.
