I just ordered a AR Performance 6.8 tx upper, and I got a POF lower from SOG Armory. I will be using it for hog hunting. And I would like any input on this round. Palmetto has the 6.8 Barnes 110 grain tsx combat loaded it should have a 2750FPS or do you thank the 85 grain Barnes tsx with 3100FPS would be better. Any input will help. Thanks Brian

for hogs the 85 is a killer, it is faster so it opens quicker and more reilably in my opinion.

85 Barnes would be better. With these bullets' constructions, speed is what gets them open and also dictates the distance at which it will stop opening. In that light, the same bullet construction going almost 400fps faster will have the advantage as both penetrate sufficiently.

My shoots at not more than 150 yards, and I thought that the 110 grain opened up at 1800FPS and the 85 grain 2100FPS Thanks Brian
You ought be fine with either then.

Sledge hammers but probably overkill for eastern whitetails.

Perfect for hogs. I have not had one hog get away, no matter where I hit them.
They either drop on the spot or run about 20 yards and keel over dead.

The 85 is a good bullet too.

Pro hunters are probably better for deer.

I'd say both are awesome projectiles for punching a shoulder, dropping hogs, but the true experts attest to the 85gr bullet and velocity out of a 6.8 is the best for hogs... I have very limited experience and am just interested.

Regardless, that TSX is one heck of of good bullet!

What would be better for big hogs, the 90 grain TNT Speer or the 110 grain Barnes or the 110 grain Accubons?
the barnes for big hogs
just about anything will work fine if you pop em behind the ear
but if you hit the shoulder, especially at close range, only the barnes is pretty much guaranteed to hold together, expand and punch on through the other side

I run handload 110g TTSX because I want one bullet for everything

I may try the 85s, by all accounts they are very effective on big hogs but some reservations about them opening up on whitetails consistently

Great info for me! I am looking/researching the 6.8 mm and immediately started looking at the 130 gr. SGK & TTSX as I am used to my 300 WM. I am now looking at the 110 gr TTSX by Barnes, even though it costs more than the Sierra Pro Hunter.
Thanks I will keep browsing the forum.

So is the 85 grain Barns lead free what every one is talking about?

Is this the best round for hunting large hogs.
That's the bullet. Based on the reports from hog hunters, it's a great choice. Particularly note HTR's responses on this since he runs a ranch where he conducts hunts and has hundreds of hogs to his credit. It's his favorite...
