Here is an example of a pig that we shot running, taking the only opportunity we had. This is a client that had never been pig hunting before. I took him out during the evening, and this ugly-ass thing ran out, and tried to run the gauntlet, across a food plot he had been visiting.

We saw, it, I said "shoot, now" & he shot at the shoulder since it was the largest part of the target. I heard the hit, the pig jumped, made a faint squeal and a grunt, and he started running faster. So my client shot again, and hit the pig again, behind the 6th or 7th rib. The thing only went about 40 yards, and crumpled. One bullet traversed both shoulder blades...the other went through the liver at about 10 inches further aft.

Once again, this pig was shot with 2 Barnes TSX, 85 grainers, and both exited. Now, I know all of you like the head shot and say that the "protective shoulder plate" should not be shot at. Well with a 6.8 SPC, loaded with 85 grain TSX's going 3203 FPS, I don't think that's a problem. This pig weighted 284 pounds.

The rifle is my ARPerformance 20" SS 12 twist, 3 groove and it launches the 85 grain TSX at 3203 FPS, and shoots a 0.8" group with them.

Very nice.

I want one of those uppers SOOOO Bad! Wish I know about them before the Extreme project took H from making them up. I'm patient and will get one some day!

I shot a pig last year with my 9.3x62 using cheap Privi ammo and a 286 gr bullet. Also went through the "protective" plate and dropped him.

Just shows that they can be killed when shot in that area. Light or heavy bullets work well!

I would have to think (given that the 110's do very well at 2700), you are going to have a neat little pocket BLASTER with the PSD. What a cool little rifle that must be. You might have to come visit the ranch and bring that thing here....right about the time I finally get my THERMAL imaging.

We are having to work a little harder to get at these big boars. I have had to sit in the deer stand on a couple of weekends, until about 2 am, until a pig finally showed up. I am thinking I might need to buy some of the big 6 X 8 fiberglass blinds and put a cot in one

I just ordered 200 of the 85 TSX's and will load them up with some 10X to see what kind of velocity I can get in this 3 groove. I have a feeling I can safely screech them out at just under 3300 FPS

I am interested in some pig blasting, and I would love to see what the PSD would do with the 85's. I'm also wondering how it would perform with the SSA 115gr OTM's in the Tactical loading, the PSD launches those at close to 2200 fps. Since velocity determines how fast and how much a bullet of that construction destroys it's self, it might hold together long enough to get through the shoulder blade. All guessing on my part, of course. I also have one of Constructor's 12 twist three groove 18" barreled uppers. I haven't had the time to shoot it much but I want to develop that into a sniper-type rifle. I need to set aside an afternoon and get dialed in. The bore had already been broken in. It's also plenty light enough for a hunt.

HTR- slightly off topic but have you used the 85 TSX's on deer?

Actually, guys these were the SSA factory loads. As you know, the bullets just became available this past week, so I have not yet received my order of 200 from Midway.

Marines, I have shot one deer with the 85 TSX. It was a base-of-the-neck shot and the thing was DRT like a lightning bolt had hit it.

I have not yet tried shooting one in the lungs, but I think it is time to see what that will do. I will shoot one in the open area of the ranch so I can see where it runs (if it does). At 3203 FPS, I would imagine the bullet will expand sufficiently.

As always, I will post results for you guys if/when I shoot one this week.

Awesome report HTR. Glad to see the 85 gr. penetrates so well and is accurate to boot. Wouldn't be too hard to paint that 6.8 to match that Hawgoflage  . My next rifle will be a 20", that's a great lookin' rig. And hey, that guy looks like one of the Doc's I've worked with. . Look forward to your deer blast report. Thanks!
