I am completely confused on what is a hot load and what is not. As far a 6.8 goes I have it figured out. But for 5.56 and 7.62 what is the actual battle round and what is not? I have gotten q3131 winchester in 5.56 and 7.62 but come to find out that is a practice round. Where does someone find m193 or the battle ammo that our military use or would it be better to buy the components and make softpoints that are hot on my own accord?

Can someone clear this up for me?

And if someone knows of a good supplier of meat ammo (hollowpoints) for 9mm and .45 acp let me know please.

In the 5.56/.223, the M193, M855, and the MK262 are the Military Grade 5.56 ammo. The Q3131 is the M193 Equivalent and it is also 5.56 pressured ammo. And the Hornady 5.56 75 Gr. TAP is also loaded to 5.56 pressures. I know Corbon and SSA also makes some 5.56 pressured ammo. W3131 has gone through some changes, but as long as it is loaded to 5.56 pressures, it is good-to-go. Even the American Eagle 55 Gr. ammo, which is loaded to .223 pressures, is still decent for 0-100 yards.

The Military 5.56 FMJ is decent stuff, but for LE and Civilian use, there are better choices. The Federal TRU ammo and the Hornady TAP ammo is very good stuff.

The military uses 62gr M855 as general issue. What Paulo said, the TRU line is excellent and for Hornady I would stick with the 75gr 5.56 TAP.

For .308, commerical loadings are hotter than 7.62 NATO ball. The 147gr ball round gets about 2550 to fps from a 16" barrel and a Federal 150gr Nosler ballistic tip gets about 2650 fps from the same barrel. As for the 147gr ball just being target ammo, tell that to those that have been shot with it. Not to say there isn't better stuff out there. I really like the Hornady 155gr TAP, excellent terminal ballistics.

If you reload then the sky is the limit for these two calibers.
