Aloha from AZ. I see that the rest of the country is freezing and we are just running around in our shorts and light jackets. Well, I am not educated at all about the 6.8 SPC. I am retired US Army Infantry. I do have a few 300BO rifles in the collection. I am trying to determine if the 6.8 is something that I want to proceed with. I lost a very good friend recently and inherited some 6.8 things. He was unable to complete building a 6.8 for himself. I have a good sum of parts and weighing to continue the project of get rid of the parts. My understanding with the 6.8 is that it has not be received highly. I am unsure of the ballistics of the caliber and the primary use of the cartridge. My only use would be hunting and range time. The only idea I have is that I would complete the project for my buddy. If the support of the cartridge is diminishing or getting parts or components becomes an issue, what is the benefit of the cartridge?

Any and all respectful comments are welcome. I just do not have an educated idea about the the 6.8. Please give the pros and cons of the round and how it performs in the AR. I think that I should look at all options rather than just selling stuff off.

Mahalo!

Welcome to the forum. If you spend some
time reading this forum you will see what
a great cartridge the 6.8spc ll is. It is a great
round for hunting. Low recoil also. If you
want to get rid of parts I'm sure they
will be bought up quick. Don't give up
on it to quick. It got a bad rap to start
but when they went to 6.8spc ll specs.
it really began to show it's potential.

If your primary use is hunting, you would be hard pressed to find a better caliber for hunting in an AR15 platform.
How about a 90 grain bonded bullet at 2950 fps, or a 110 at 2700+. If you reload you can SAFELY achieve these numbers in a 16" 6.8 barrel, a bit more in 18" or 20" barrels. It also has 300+ yard effective range.
By the way it is also toasty here today.
80 degrees and sunny.

Check out AR Performance in our industry partners section. ARP makes the best barrels for excellent prices.
Welcome and Howdy from Texas. Hope you like it here. Lots of advice and research materials for building and reloading.
I can suggest a good source for affordable AR parts, if you write me directly. I had been posting suggestions in public but recently I got a wrist slap for trying to help members. Lots of good folks here willing to offer helpful advice.
