Aimpoint or Eotech?

Ok guys, let's keep it civil (I know we will as this site has more class then that other forum).

I wanted to start a poll:

Which do you own? Why? Pros Cons?

Aimpoint (which model)
Eotech (which model)
Both
or
Other

Here is my reason, none of my fun stores carries stuff like this (mostly fud stuff) so it's hard to go out and get a feel for them.

Own both, like both, recommend both. :D:D
Glad I could be of some help. :D:D
+1
Same here!
I own both, like both and would recommend both too. I dislike some features of both sights, some are being addressed by the manufacturer with their new model.

The Aimpoints, other than the M4's require that you buy a mount too. This, I think, should be included.

The EOTech circle around the dot is unlikeable (for lack of a better description) by me anyway. Just exactly why is it there?? I purchased several of their sights with the single 1 minute dot and like them a lot. My only complaint is the placement of the controls at the rear of the scope body. This interferes with NV or 3X magnifiers if you own or hope to own one in the future. Plus the controls are impossible to read. If you only owned it and used it often enough this would not be an issue, owning lots of different scopes, dots ect. it takes time to figure it out every time you pick it up (I may be a tard who knows).

Both sights are quality and are head and shoulders above anything cheaper. The EOTech is made in Ann Arbor, MI USA. Right down the street from Trijicon in Wixom, MI USA.

The kill flash for the Aimpoint is worse than useless, it blocks your view far more than it protects you from reflecting.

They've addressed that issue with the 516/556 series, controls are now located on the side for better compatability with NVG's/magnifiers. Probably doesn't help you out any but might be good info for someone looking to purchase for the first time.

That's a BIG + IMO.
So is the only real differences between the 512 and 516 be the AA batteries vs c 123 batteries and rear mounted controls and side mounted?
I like my eotechs, would like to try aimpoint sometime. No analytics here, all about convenience and the eyes. Comfort in use. The first one I tried sold me. It came up to target easily and quickly.
I don't own either due to the cost but I have used both and like the Eotech best. More open view of the target it seems.

The 516 has side controls, C123 batteries, and is raised so you get a lower 1/3 co-witness.
If you plan on buying either check ebay for your optics. You can always find a nice set up for alot cheaper than buying from Brownells or something like that. All new of course or good used stuff. I picked up a 512 EO for $250 and got my comp c aimpoint for $250 also. You cant go wrong. The other day I found Paulos new Aimpoint setup for around $1100 shipped.

Don't forget to use the Microsoft LIVE cashback deal on spendy optics packages and get a substantial rebate. Lately they have only been 8% back - but I got %30 back on the Aimpoint I bought from SWFA using ebay before Christmas.
I chose the N battery EOTech (my avatar pic.) model 551.A65/1. It's faster at target acquisition, perfect size, and about $900 less than the 6.8 ACOG that I wanted. The advantage you'll get with the Aimpoint is battery life. I've got a SOPMOD on the way for battery storage so (in my opinion of course) no real advantage there. I love my EOTech! The only other optic that I'll ever use is the ACOG...I must win the Lottery!

Stay away from the EOTEchs with the N Batteries. (511/551 series).
SHIT...that's what I have! What's wrong with my EOTech?

But so much good comes from both places! How can that really help us decide?!?!

WOW!!!!! Love sweeden, but I did marry a cheerleader!!!

I really think either the 512 or 516 is my sollution. I can't afford NV, nor are they on my list of priorities right now so that is a mute point. Only time I may have the chance to use NV is if I go over to HTR's and he let's me bower a NV optic. So I think if I can find a used 516, that may be the route. What's EO's warranty like?
I own both and would recommend both. Currently, I have a 551 on my 6.8 with a 4x flip to side magnifier. The Aimpoint is on a S&W 357 that I use for whitetail. Like the replys have stated, the Aimpoint takes marks for battery life, but I do prefer the EOTech for competition. The 1MOA adjustment is a plus IMO.
Definately check Ebay. I found the 551 NIB for $300 last fall.
Just stay away from the Bushnell EOTech wannabe.
Are there any real easy ways to spot fakes on the bay.

The versions with the N batteries have a real low battery life compared to the others.

Probably the best way is to buy from known quality dealers.
Zoomie's post settles it, get both.

Oh...that's it? I can deal with that. I accepted the battery life when I purchased it. I love the size! I think the CR123's and AA's are too big and the new single CR123 models are too small. Just my preference I suppose. On my next build I will suck it up and save for a year for the ACOG....no batteries!
