ACOG TA01 vs TA31?

I'd stay away from the TA01. It is calibrated for the .223 with the 55 Gr. ammo, which is very hard to match up with. The TA31 is pretty good, but not as precise as the TA01NSN, which has the crosshair reticle. So if you want more precision, get the one with the crosshair reticle such as the TA01NSN, TA31DOC, TA01NSNDOC.

I tried a TA31, which has the Donut Reticle, but I didn't try the TA11. I like the Donut reticle alot actually. I just wish thry made a non-caliber specific reticle for it.

Also check out the JPRifles version with their custom reticle that they have. It is actually very nice.

I was looking at that yesterday (JP)

the inner circle on the donut is 2MOA, so, if you put zeroed at 100 with the POI at the top of the inner circle, you should hit dead center at 50 and be "in the circle" out to maybe 225 or so yards

I've been told that the 3.5x35 with the donut recticle provides faster target acquisition and eliminates the need for the Doctor attachment on the 4x32. Plus, it has better light transmission with a 35 vs 32 opening. Anyone used both that could provide some real world feedback? BTW, my useful range would be maximum 300 yards.

I cant wait till ACOG comes out with the 6.8 BDC'ed ACOG, then I will be good to go.

I strongly prefer the TA11 3.5x over any of the 4x ACOG's because of the longer eye relief--especially important with a 6.8 mm.

Also, ask yourself what you are doing with the optic; for most uses in the 0-300 range, I find an Aimpoint RDS in LaRue mount in conjunction with an Aimpoint 3x magnifier in a LaRue LT649 to be the best set-up. I also find the 1.1-4x S&B Short Dot, 1-4x NF, 1.25-4x Trijicon Accupoint, and 1.5-5x Leup to be more versatile than the ACOG in the 0-300 range. Mini RDS's on top of ACOG's are NOT user friendly--I'd avoid them if possible...

I've adjusted to the TA31F with a chevron reticle, Its fast enough for entry team stuff and "almost" as good as crosshair reticle for the distances we use. The only problem I've encounterd is our TQ21 and B27 targets sorta get covered up by the chevron at about 150yds but then we don't shoot that far all that often. I like the 4X for observation purposes and we may use it for a designated marksman rifle, like a perimeter security sorta thing.

I'm not going to answer for Doc, but for me, it was a couple of things:
1. The height was an issue at first, but you can get used to it.
2. The RDS sights are a pain in the ass to zero.
3. Transitioning from one to the other is not the best thing, but again, with training, it is not an issue.

Thank you Paulo. I just bought the Aimpoint 3x multiplier with the LaRue mount to go behind my Eotech 553. I'd love the ACOG but the price is a tough one to swallow right now with the economy and all.
