I know someone posted this before but I could not find it. I was trying to figure the approx. FPS of the LWRC 8.5" barrel with the 85 TSX SSA load. ie- max effective range using that combo. I was gonna do a SPR .223, but I think this would be better.

Maximum Performance Range of the 6.8SPC from an 8" Barrel:

1. Hornady 110 Gr. V-Max with a muzzle velocity of 2200 fps (8" barrel), will fragment from 1900+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 144 yards.
2. Hornady 110 Gr. BTHP with a muzzle velocity of 2200 fps (8" barrel), will fragment from 2000+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 95 yards.
3. SSA Sierra 90 Gr. HP with a muzzle velocity of 2562fps (8" barrel), will expand from 2000+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 144 yards.
4. SSA Sierra 110 Gr. Pro-Hunters with a muzzle velocity of 2081fps (8" barrel), will expand from 1700+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 160 yards.
5. SSA Sierra 115 Gr. SMK with a muzzle velocity of 2192fps (8" barrel), will fragment from 2000+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 80 yards.
6. SSA Speer 90 Gr. TNT with a muzzle velocity of 2562fps (8" barrel), will expand from 2000+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 192 yards.
7. SSA Barnes 85 Gr. TSX with a muzzle velocity of 2678fps (8" barrel), will expand from 2100+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 167 yards.
8. SSA Barnes 110 Gr. TSX with a muzzle velocity of 2300fps (8" barrel), will expand from 1800+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 209 yards.
9. SSA Nosler 110 Gr. Accubonds with a muzzle velocity of 2335fps (8" barrel), will expand from 1900+ fps, which leaves a maximum performance range of 204 yards.

The SSA 85gr TSX and the SSA 110gr Combat/Tactical loaded Accubond have the best velocity and energy from my PSD. In a 16" barrel the Accubond penetrates something like 20 to 22 inches, too much for a tactical round. Out of the PSD with the slower velocities I think it might penetrate less. I fired a reloaded Accubond at about 2230 fps into a five gallon water jug stuffed with newspaper and water and it penetrated about 10 inches and expanded pretty good (I don't have the numbers with me). Another option is the 90gr Sierra Varmiter loaded by SSA but I don't know if they still load that bullet. It posted good velocities.

Paulo, doesn't the 85gr TSX expand from 1900 Fps?

2100 FPS. Adam sent Barnes an E-Mail and they provided the info.

The accubond will likely penetrate more not less at slower velocities. The less the bullet expands the more it will penetrate. It all depends on bullet construction. If a bullet fully expands at the lower vel then it will pen less but if it expands less it will tend to penetrate deeper depending on the ratio. You see this to the extreme with sub loads.
