Why did you hear something?

A couple guys have said on this forum that the 6.8 will likely go the way of the 40 S&W, meaning law enforcement.

It's fun waiting to find out isn't it?

I think there is a few things in the works, as with all things .gov related it, it wont be quickly.

The fact that the 5.56 is the officially adopted cartridge by NATO is an awfully big hurdle to get over as far as the military is concerned. But then again, we introduced it so anything is possible. As stated previously, the military is really slow to adopt new new things especially when it comes to replacing something that has had some success, however nominal that may be. When you look at kill ratios, and the brass definitely do, the number for the 5.56 "appear" impressive. But I would argue that its not due to a superior bullet, rather superior fighting force. I think marinesg1012 among others on this forum could attest to that. I think it will begin with LEO agencies and then, hopefully, once there is more "real world scenario" data available perhaps the military will take a closer look at the 6.8spc. As I understand it, SOCOM is already testing it in the sandbox with good success. Now if only we could get the military to look closer at the piston driven rifles or conversions......

Adopt it agency wide? no. using it? yes
It's a start though, right? For now we'll just continue to have fun shooting it and hope that the military and/or LEO agencies will eventually learn what we already know about this fully capable cartridge.

If not then it is their loss, the .mil may not pick it up, the LEO's may not pick it up but plenty of rounds dont get used by those two groups of indivduals. if we can get hunters to adopt it we will have done all we can, hunters spend what like 40 plus Million a year on gear and such? the firearms industry is a like 300 million a year I think?

By Aug. things should get pretty interesting, The mil trials are around July-Aug and there are some other things going on with some new guys that could help the 6.8 move along. Art is always pushing things along too.

I reported this several months ago...

There is an ammunition plant under construction in Bonne Terre MO that will make ammunition ONLY for government contracts.

The rounds they will be manufacturing are:

.556...

7.62 x 51...

and...

6.8 SPC....in that order.

Make your own conclusion....

I have been to the plant. I have personally spoken with the engineering manager. There is machinery on the floor as I type this.

Art is very familiar with this facility....and the principle parties... but he is NOT involved.

The only apparent reason they are not yet running is due to legal issues re: machinery in Florida that is needed to complete the plant.

It isn't an issue of IF the 6.8 will be adopted by some agency...but when.

The latest scuttlebutt is that the round may be fielded by Homeland Security.

we will see about that since i just sent the rifle a few weeks ago and the testing has not yet started although they are gearing up. I think that will take a while but, i believe someone else is very interested in the 6.8 and and could commit to several thousand much sooner. I know there are a few that have been sent to the fbi and a few to the border patrol i do not know if they are personal weapons or are being tested.

We wouldn't need to build new ammo plants if clinton wouldn't have shut them down in the 90's. Why anyone thought we only needed the LC plant to produce most of our ammo is beyond me. Poor strategy if you ask me. Too many eggs in one basket.

When I spoke to Nancy for my recent order of ammo, she told me that they are getting calls almost daily of LE ordering 6.8. One of my buddies who just came back from the desert said that some of the ops guys have it over there.....
