6.8 velocities based on barrel length

Federal reported testing the 90G GD round in LWRCI barrels from 16" to 24 ".

The average increase in velocity reported in their test was 17.5 fps/in

They used the 110 Vmax for their 6.8 load. Whomever "they" is.
That shows a velocity increase range for 16" to 24" barrels of 20 ft/sec to 33 ft/sec with the average at 26.125 ft / sec.

Not far from the Federal test results...

But powder burn rate, bullet weight, bullet compression and barrel coatings/plating's will all influence the result.

A reasonable average would appear to be about 50 ft/sec for every 2" of barrel length as Art and wxl pointed out.

What is notable is that barrel length has more of a useful effect on shorter barrels.
