6.8 spc case .270 win bullet

Okay first of its would like to say that yes I know you can do this and I know there is a million forms out therected about it but I'm wanting to know if it will work for my application. I am wanting to use the 6.8 spc for deer hunting in middle ga and I do not need a long range rifle. I am wondering how the 6.8 case would preform with a .277 Nosler/Hornady bullet. Balistic tip or soft nose. What can I do to get the 6.8 to knock down mature bucks like my .270 win does?

Specifically 130+ grain. From a .270 win

The 6.8 is not going to perform like a 270 since it lacks the case capacity for the amount of powder to produce the velocity needed with a 130 gr bullet. It will push a 90 gr bullet to almost 3000 fps and a 100 gr bullet to 2800 fps. Proper bullet selection and shot placement with either of these will produce quick, clean kills.
That's what I figured I'm just a little nervous about using a round that I'm not familiar with that is some what small compared to what I'm used to. Since I just got these deer on trail camera

The 95gr TTSX or either 100 or 110gr Accubond will do the job reliably.
All I've ever hunted with was 110 Nosler Accubond and they did the job every time. Plus the white tip is tacticool.:a04:

Alright I'm going to get a spikes 6.8 spc today. I was going to build a grendel but I can't find parts and the parts I can find are too expensive. It would be like $1500 to build the 6.5 with the parts avaliable right now.

Welcome to the 6.8 world! You'll like the performance of this round. Nice deer by the way.

Thanks hopefully I'll have some good luck with it this season. What kind of bullets for reloads or standard ammo do yall recommend? I was going to load some barns 120g and buy some Hornady sst.

Good choice, tposton103. When it comes to bullet selection for hunting, the 6.8 SPC has a significant advantage to the 6.5 Grendel. The link below covers terminal performance of .277 caliber bullets in the 6.8mm SPC. It even includes 130+ grain bullets. bedlamite, recommendation is a good starting place.
