I've built multiple AR rifles and have never used go/no-go gauges. Since the components are built to mil spec, you can expect them to be within tolerance. If you reload and set your dies up to set your shoulder back 0.003-0.0004" you by default have set the headspace correct for your particular rifle. Most of the factory ammo I have bought have 0.017" or more of headspace. You can also check headspace by firing a couple of cases and measure how far forward the shoulder moves. The biggest challenge I've had is getting the chamber size of different 6.8mm rifles to match within 0.001" so I can use the same die setting for all my resized cases.
