Is there any reason this would not work? I have a magpul 6.8 follower and spring out of a D&H magazine that won't fit correctly in my receiver. Is there any reason I can't just swap it over to an old 5.56 magazine?

The follower fits right in. Looking for someone with more experience than me to tell me why this will not work.

Yes there is IT WILL NOT WORK repeat after me 6.8 WILL NOT WORK in 5.56 mags. do a forum search on it and you see all the trends on it including the One from from 2 DAYS ago explaining why it doesn't work !!

The difference isn't the follower the whole mag body is different the walls are thicker Stainless steel the ribs are a different size all to gather IT JUST doesn't WORK.

I did search using things like "6.8 follower in 5.56 magazine" and did not find much, but I am on my phone.

I have 6 different 6.8 magazines that do not work with my new Seekins lower. I am trying to find a solution to test fire my gun, but I want to do it safely.

As I said in a previous thread, some old 5.56 magazines fit just fine so that is my dilemma. The crazy state of the market for manufactures is not helping.

Reaching out to Seekins has thus far been unsuccessful.

What mags are you using and are the correctly marked?? That seems like a lower or other issue not a mag issue.

What 6.8 mags are they? If they won't work but 5.56 mags will. I would say that is a mag issue and not a lower issue.

For test firing you can get a few rounds in a 5.56 mag.

I would look hard at the 6.8 mags and why they won't work.

Wow. Boys are a bit testy. I say F them. Swap the parts out and give it a try. Please post the result.
i do remember that thread. I also remember the only mags being discussed were Pmags. The result of the discussion was that Pmags sort of work but only with a few rounds loaded. I do not remember any other mag being discussed. Use an all metal mag body. Try a couple different ones. Best of luck.

No it is NO 5.56 mags work a 6.8 follower will not even properly fit in to a 5.56 mag body. And yes other Mage were mentioned namely GI aluminum mags swell with most than 4 rnds.

And yes we are getting testy becos people ask the same question 3-5 a week and never listen. People like YOU tell people to do it even thew you know from what the people in the know tell you it will jot work .....

That's excellent info aspp! And an excellent way to post it. That's what makes this forum different than the others I've visited. Sometimes I can read a post about something I'm interested in but don't have a good understand as to what's been presented. Nice to know that one can ask a follow up.

I am tip toeing in gently to offer a comment without direct experience. Seekins lowers are fine lowers (I have one on order) but there are published comments mag wells are tight tolerance and especially an issue with Pmag Gen1 mags. Later receivers may be better ? Later Pmag generations were also suppose to be better fit. Possible it is a combination of tight side spec on mag well and high side spec on the mags. May have to play around with different mags to find a reasonable fit (or take emery cloth to inside of mag well)

Now tip toeing out....

With all due respect, it has been tried, several hundred times by dozens of different people. That is what we were trying to get accross. This type of question pops up atleast once a week, if people would do a "magazine" search you will come up with all the info needed. We have no problem helping someone out, but we get sick of answering the same question over and over again.

And btw, this is not ARFCOM, we are not a bunch of basement dwelling mouth-breathers around here. A large majority of posters are members of the firearms community or use firearms for their job.

Rareform, may I suggest you contact Chad at CPD for a consult on why mags will not fit in the lower? Very frustrating at the least.

James, this is the first topic in quite awhile where I have seen disrespect shown, thank you for resolving the issue.

So the ASC, and D&H mags and Cprod mags don't fit ( new CPD mags or older C-prod mags?)

But 5.56 mags will. This still tells me a mag issue and not a lower issue. I have had lowers that had right mag wells and it didn't make a difference what type if mag. 5.56 or 6.8. Some would and some wouldn't.

It would be interesting to see how a PRI or Barrett mag would work?
Where are you located? I'm on a phone so don't see the locations listed.

I wouldn't give up hope yet.

Pardon me if I missed it, but is this a forged seekins or a billet? I have heard that the forged ones do not like gen 1/2 pmags, but will take gen 3. I don't have any pmags to test in my seeking forged, but tapco 5.56 mags fit as well as the metal 30 rounders I have and my CPD 6.8 mags fit just fine.

Again, thank for all your help. This is my first 6.8 build. To be honest, I thought it was going to be a breeze, but it has thus far been 4 months of frustration. Apparently I have just been unlucky.

The good news, Seekins got in touch with me and I am sending my lower and 2 magazines (I chose one D&H and one ASC) to them for "testing". They said they will make it right for me since this is the second time this lower has been sent back. I will report back when I have some news.

Based on your feedback, I have just returned all the followers to the correct magazines. Hopefully it will not be necessary to resort to that.
