I saw on the 6.8 exteme offering from Tim W, Constructor that a big bore Exteme upper is in the works.
Man I was just dreaming about putting together a big bore AR.

Can you add some more info?
Are you guys going to do an affordable upper like your 6.8 thats coming out?
What is the parent case? I'd like to figuire out what it would take to load this monster.
As a side ? I hear some discussion about bolts not being as strong when they are opened up for larger calibers. Generally without supporting facts but I would like to hear thoughts from you guys with real experience.

Tim W got me all excited with the info on his website--now give all the details.

This is at the top of my want to buy list.

Thanks

Jerry

Tim wanted to build a big bore so when I started the AR12 project for my 6.5ARSM and .338 ARSM the 50 BAAR (real .510 bullet) came alive.
I'll let Tim tell you all of the details but it is based on a WSM case at 1.550"
I can't say too much about the AR12 design yet but no need to worry about bolt strength.

That should stop a bear or anything just about in its tracks....

Well if we run into magazine capacity restrictions again... let's see, 10 little rounds, or 10 BIG rounds? Remember the resurgence of the 45acp in handguns after the 10 round capacity laws? This could be good timing for a the 500 BAAR Mega Xtreme.

WSM brass, 300 WSM dies with a S&W .500 seating stem in the 300 WSM die.

Personal Opinion, I think it needs a name change. BAAR Mega Xtreme sounds like something I'd see on Cartoon Network.

Very exciting and I want one! Tim mentions it takes PRI mags but doesn't say which ones. Does he mean 25 round 6.8 waffle mags? If so, does that mean CProducts mags or regular 5.56 mags will not work? I ask because I will stock up on some PRIs if it's true. I already have a boat load of CProducts 6.8 and USGI type 5.56s. Oh, what the heck, I should just stock up on PRIs anyway... Hehehe

Also, what other rounds fire this .510 bullet? I'm curious about availability.

Kerry (the other Kerry)

ETA: 50 BMG (duh!)

I am not saying that is needed, elegance lies in simplicity... the whole KISS principle.

I should of added a :D or a ;) to the end of that.... I was trying to make fun of the fact all new products has tactical in the name, and say it is being used in iraq by SEALS....

Was ".500 BAAR" cartridge, Tim has added the "mega Xtreme" to call the rifle something after we figured out a case length and which dies would work to get the proper neck tension on a .510 bullet.

It is not my baby, so I dont want to cause any changes, but with any project I do, I am a beast when it comes to pre-planning, I think the BAAR prefix alone, lends itself much better then the mouthful of MEGA Xtreme added to it. Again just my thoughts on the matter. I am eager to see the results when they are up and I hope one makes it to the 68 class and match in April.
