Well Fellas, I finally, after 26 years, killed my first deer! It was a white tail Doe, not too terribly big, but when its you first, ya can be too picky. Prolly about 5 yards away with a .40 cal pistol. The damn thing was hard headed tho, took 4 whole shots! And before anyone asks:
Yes it was at night
No I dont have a license
No Deer arent currently in season
And yes, I was hunting from the roadway with a bright light.

I am man, hear me roar!

Oh, and before anyone asks, I was a True conservationaists, I left it on the side of the road for the buzzards! Also got a picture which ill post soon, and I may be able to get a video of the slaughter!
I'm guessing car kill? I like to get behind them and put one in the base of the skull. One shot will always work then. I've had too many problems with side shots. I even had a one deflect a .357 sig and not go in skull on a frontal shot.

And congrats on your first deer.
That would make a great Outdoor channel show!! Police officers spot lighting at night in their spare time. I bet the subject line will get alot of people checking out this thread. I know I couldn't wait to see what it was about. :D
A good argument for a carbine in the patrol car :D

I remember reading the wall of shame in Georgia Outdoor News and the winner was a Deputy who was arrested after night hunting and running from the DNR and his fellow deputies

And yes, all kidding aside, I was working and the deer had been hit by an unknown vehicle. When I got there, she was sitting up. Not skint up at all but her back was broken. The only lesson I learned is not to use the glock, use the shotgun next time, a lot more humane. I had a good angle and figured one shot behind the ear would would, but it didnt. I watched the video, and It turned out I shot "at" it 5 times. Think i missed once. Video is very gory! Wish i would have taken Trophy pics of my first slaying!

I know right, If I would have had my 6.8 complete, I would have tested the terminal performance of an 85 barnes on a deer, but alas, my Xtreme hasnt arrived yet.
To bad you couldnt of donated it to a feed shelter.

Wouldnt that be something, Drive 10 miles back to town with a deer draped across the hood of my patrol car, tied down to the push bumper. But in all honesty, we dont even have a feed shelter here. I think we have homeless in town, but its a very low number, like 3 or maybe 4.

But speaking of the Cops and deer, I know a Deputy in the next county over that had put deer on his hood and took them home to process. We couldnt get away with that in our county
I didnt know if you guys had a hunters for the hungry shelter set up... It isn't for homelss but it is more like a food bank where people that need a little extra can come and get stuff... I didnt know if you guys had one. With the current times any little bit can help...

Possibly not a good dea in the warming weather. Deer get worms in their muscle in the summer time.
Is there a lesson on the effectiveness of handgun stopping power in this discussion?
OH Boy Art you just opened a can of worms.

Just to stir the pot a little more. it should have been a .45 would have done it the first shot. What kind of bullets were they. h.p. what gr?
Federal HSts, 155 Gr I believe. We used to carry Hydra-Shoks, but Im glad we swapped over

What? Me? Nah... I'm just sayin'..........
.40 cal with 155 gr HST's and it took 4!!!! I don't think it is the gun It might be the gunner

Just busting your chops ron. I have hit a doe at 60yds square with a 30.06 and had to track it to put a second shot in it. And the first shot took out one lung and nicked the heart.

When an animal gets a adrenaline rush it takes alot to stop them.
Still would like to see your qualifiying record

Deer can survive a lot if they want to.

Lol, so thats how it is? Police Acadamy.... 292 outta 300

Since then, yearly Qualifying interdepartment is 290, 300, and ashamingly enough, my last one was a 260 :(

I need to practire more with my shooting tecnique using a flashlight and suported shooting. Im a lot more accurate wit both hands wrapped around the grip. The one I missed I had my flashlight in my weak hand.
