i bump my shoulder back .003 so .014 is a lot. i would definitely adjust your die
sry did a bad job of explaining what is going on. To get the brass to fit in my chamber I had to bumped the shoulder back to 1.296 then after firing my cases were measuring 1.31. I could prolly do a little better job of getting it to fit in the Chamber and get it down to .012 difference but still seems like a lot and I don't know what to do about it. This was brass that had already been sized for 6.8 and I decided to use it for tac 30 idk if that makes a diff

Last of the 30 Herrett AR?

If your wondering whom picked off the last of the 16" 30 Herrett AR barrels... Well...
That would be me... Now my 18" 30 Herrett AR won't be lonely. ?

Since these may not be made for a while or never, figured I'd snag it. Got the last of the latest run of the 12.5" 6.8 ARP barrels also about a week or so after getting the 30 Herrett barrel.

Still need to get them out and put their first rounds through them.
Going to be putting these 125 grain projectiles I got a few years back through the shorter barrel.

The projectiles were designed for 300 Blackout. They shot well through my 18" 30 Herrett barrel. Hoping they do as well in the new one.

Will let you know how it goes once I get out.
Thanks!

Well I finally solved the cycling issues with the opening of the gas port. That along with altering the gas block did the trick. Ejects solid at about 4:00 and brass looks good, slight marks with the TGK's, they are grouping very well at 75 yards and the speeds are adequate.

Brass with TGK's...

Group with TGK's (under an inch) and 27.0 AA1680...

Brass with 125 SST's...

Group with the 125 SST's (under an inch) with 27.0 AA1680...
Out of curiosity what did you end up opening the gas port to?

I have been having trouble finding 125gr to 130gr bullets for my 30 Herrett AR I finished putting together ahwile back. Was looking around on Midway today and they had 130 gr hollow points classified as factory over runs from a major manufacturer, offered in boxes of 500, that was only about 22Cents a bullet ($110) The picture seems similar to the Speer 130 flat base. We shall find out if they match the picture, bought a box to try for plinking at the very least.

Cavity Back Bullets has 125 MKZs in stock. You won't have a more lethal hunting bullet.

Is there any chance of a 12", or any size being run again? If not, what custom barrel builder would you guys recommend?
Constructor said he wasn’t going to make it. He posted the diagram. You will have to get a reamer and gauges made and find a company. I’m waiting on my reamer and gauges. I have spoke to McGowan and they said they would but have to provide reamer.

Nice Bobcat! Did you ever post photos of the mount?

On a related note, can you tell me what kind of brass catcher you've got on that rifle? It looks better than anything else I've seen so I thought I'd ask for information about it. Thanks!
It's a Tactical Brass one. I have a couple of them. They are awesome! Little pricey, but way worth it. The collapse, so you dont have to remove them when your packing up.

To further expand on the TAC 30 which Harrison originally called the 30HRT.

The original 30 Herrett was based on a 30-30 case. Marty of Teppo Jutsu designed at 30 HRT based on the 6.8 spc case. HRT stood for Herrett Rimless Tactical as I recall before he decided to go overseas. It was not a 30 Herrett but was his vision of a similar round for the AR.

When Harrison designed the 30HRT/TAC 30, he shortened the case as many people liked heavier/longer bullets and these had to be pushed so far into the case that the crimped ended up in front of the largest part of the bullets. He designed the chamber to be similar to that of the original Herrett except, as he said above, he increased the free bore length. The base end of the cartridge is not resized as the die does not come all the way to the base but his chamber was designed to take this into account and that is not a problem. There is not need to run the shell thru a 30-30 die and then a 30 Herrett die.

I used a new Hornady 30 Herret die and I believe Harrison used an old RCBS die set. He noted that there was some differences between the older dies and the new which requires the reloader to adjust to fit as required. It is a wildcat after all. I started with the resizing die about 0.050" off the shell plate and adjusted until the required resizing shoulder set back was about 0.004" as the nominal amount as far as headspacing is concerned.

Harrison has provided some of his own measurements in the thread on the TAC30 and they may serve as a good starting spot for your final dimensions. I use a Hornady comparator bushing and my numbers are probably a bit different from the next guys but it works.

My opinion is that the round is probably superior to the 6.8 for killing hard to kill stuff and I am not aware of any competing rounds with fancy names that actually beat it in all the facets of normal year. The 30 cal bullet provides the ability to use a bit faster powder and get more velocity out of a given weight bullet compared to the same weight in a 6.8 spc. The only problem is that it is a wildcat and I hate trimming cases LOL

I'm sure Harrison will correct the errors in my understanding :)
