I wasn't sure on posting this in the 6.8 reloading section, paul said to go ahead...

I'm using Ramshot X-Terminator and Hornady 55gr FMJBT w/c bullets but was wondering on what kind of charge to use.

If I follow the Ramshot data, the OAL should be 2.260 and 25.3gr of X-Terminator, however, that's for the SIE BK. To get the cannelure even at half way on the case neck the OAL ends up being 2.230. 2.220 would be a better fit for the case neck and cannelure.

These are going to be paper punchers and stock pile only, not interested in extreme accuracy here just loading for volume.

I've loaded up 5 at 25.1 gr of exterminator and a OAL of 2.230 and was thinking of loading another 5 at 24.5 gr and an OAL of 2.220 but have no idea when I'll be able to get to a range and try them. Work really interferes with trying to shoot this time of year.

The RRA AR these are for has a .223 chamber, which could be reamed later. However, I'm trying to find a safe load for .223 for now so I can take them to the range sometime and sight the AR in.

Should I back off on the charge since the bullets need to be seated deeper than the published data ?
There really isn't any data I can find for the Hornady bulk 55gr FMJBT w/c and X-Terminator and I'd rather not guess.

After the 4 lbs of X-Terminator is gone I'll be getting TAC but figured some of you might have used X-Terminator for .223 as well as 6.8.

Any recommendations or tips are appreciated.

For a training round I load 24.2 grains which puts the power in the range of .223, about 2900 to 2950 fps from a 16" barrel. I load to the cannelure, as long as the brass is trimmed it should be fine, and don't worry about COAL since I load 55gr fmj's for training, mostly cqb.

A longer bullet, IE like especially a barnes, or seating deeper will cause higher pressure, so you have to watch it.

I ran your load through QL at 2.22" COL and got 25 gr of X-term as a max.

Please work up from a min load.

What was the pressure at 25 Gr? I've loaded up to 25.5 Gr. and din't see any pressure signs.
