I saw the store bought bag riders but seemed like more money than product to me.
They know you NEED one, a cheese grater float tube will chew up a bag :)
So, you buy what the big boys use.
I have one of those and they work very well but extra weight is always welcome on these. I run the round tubes on my match guns so it isn't a real issue about bag damage. Don't know about the big boys as you don't see many AR's in F-class around here. Mine works well enough to bring home the Gold on occasion with my 243 LBC.

I can see if you don't have a wide riding stock and that's why I made this one. Plus, I'm cheap, already had everything.
I would have made it 5 pounds if I could have found the right hardware.

Haven't brought home the gold but I've been on paper every shot :)

Gonna post here so people don't forget they really is a 22N :)
Went to the October South Florida SKS Shoot.
5 shots @ 450 yds, open, prone no rests, then a 5 shot shoot off between the top 2.
I won with a pitiful group.
24" BA upper (without the bag rider) and a sling was still heavy.
I think the 20" ARP upper would have done better.

High score on the vintage rifle but the shoot off (Tannerite Pumpkins) got me :(
I disqualified myself on the SKS match (ten rounds and kept one in my pocket).
Still came in second for score. I've won that one a few times and let the others have a shot.
Besides, the pumpkins and I don't get along.

Assembled a show and tell 6.8 (ARP group buy barrel) upper at the shoot. This one with gas :)
Did a visual bore sight on a distant power line insulator and was in the black (at 75 yards) on the first shot.
3 shot group wasn't bad. Then let others take turns shooting it. Cycled great. Took a ten shot rapid fire group @ 100 yards and it strung vertical.
I have a couple pics somewhere but nothing special.

New barrel and all, happy with the way it shoots. Have dies now, maybe do some reloading down the road.

Latest project is another 22N. Side charge, No Gas (doesn't even have a port).
Ordered a 28" bull barrel 1:7, 5R from X-caliber and it only took about 8 weeks to get here.
Got a really cheap 15" round handguard. It's about 1/8" thick. Have another Warne 20MOA mount (BudsGunShop) for an Athlon Argos 8-34x56 in the mail (from CameraLand, thanks Doug)
The extra magnification should be a help.
Upper/lower shimmed and the adjustable stock locked down tight.
I posted this in another thread, the 28" with the Vortex 6-24 scope.
Haven't shot it yet. Maybe this coming weekend @ 100yds.
Gonna bring the Chrono and clock the Factory 77 and my 80 (I have data on those and the shorter barrels) and some new 88 handloads.

20 pounds.

Right click and view a larger image if you want.
I can add a flashlight and a laser and be under the F-open weight limit :)

Range Day Results
28" X-caliber barrel, Rest and Bag, 100yds.
Temp was about 67F early on and about 77F when I quit.
No wind to speak of.
I really like the Athlon Argos 8-34X56 scope. Used it full power all day.
Started off with the range hot and no paper out so I shot the steel plate from a pinecone boresight.
One shot at center of plate then 9 more shots off that mark. 77gr Nosler Factory
Soil Technology Circuit component Brick

I then put up paper and started (top left target) with 5 rounds of 70RDF Factory, then 5 rounds of 85RDF Factory.
Went on with 80ELD reloads moving up slightly in charge with each 5 shot group.
Then the same thing with the 88ELD reloads.
Look close and you will see 2 arrows indicating scope adjustments.
Gave it one more click down and left before resetting the zeros and heading home.

Looks and sounds more like Remington every day.
I never thought being able to pull the bolt out of a .223 and sticking in another rifle to go shoot would be such a huge selling point. But I'll swear the first thing out of every 300BO owners mouth is that. If they can't afford another bolt why build another rifle?
however you can use a Nosler barrel with a 6.8 bolt and brass, no?

It's the same overall look length as a 6.8 case. It will still be short. I've got a batch of it. It would be OK for the VALK. or any of the shorter variants. Part of that length will be ate up by the shoulder in any case forming. I wish they had made it 47 MM and we would have had a whole bunch more options. Even had they gone 45 it would have still been short.

Greg

BTW If I were a smith I'd be building a double rifle on that case.
