My son went with me to our ranch. These times are special. We were pre-rut in South Texas. He took my 16” ARP, but snuck the 6mm along! Couldn’t help himself, 6mm it was. He gonna learn! Nice cull; 7 pt 22” wide.
He’ll be taking the 6.8 as we start night hunting hogs.
I took a friend and his 16 year old son out last Sunday and finally got the son on a small 8 pointer after about two miles of spot/stalk type hunting. He was pretty dead set on something with horns because at one point we were within 40' of 10 whitetail does and he passed. Pretty sure his dad was even more excited than he was.
When we gutted it I was very surprised at what a 62 grain Federal Fusion bullet does on game. Shot just in front of the shoulder, somewhat quartering towards us it left nearly a 1/2" hole in the front of the ribs before it hit heart and partial lung.
One of these years I'll get around to finding another pic hosting site to use.
My son got this doe on the next to last day of gun season here in Ohio. It was a very good shot from a Marlin 44 mag, through the neck, liquified the lung, went up and shattered the spine, followed the rib cage to lodge just under the skin at the base of the ribs. No damage to the meat at all.
I’ve been lurking on this forum for a while. Just saw this thread and thought I’d share my story from last year.
I got this guy right before Christmas. It was a stormy day and just about to clear up. He came out about 110 yds away and looked at me. I saw his horns and immediately shot him in the chest. I used a .308 bolt action and 165 gr Fusion ammo. He dropped like a rock and kicked a couple of times.
