Finished some velocity testing yesterday with my 12.5" ARP 6.8 barrel.

I wanted to load till i seen pressure so i would know where my upper limit was then work on accuracy. The max charge is as far as i wanted to push it after seeing swipes and watching primers. I could load and shoot at this level but i know the brass wont last long so i backed down till everything looked good.

Please dont just load these charges and hope everything is going to be ok. Start low and work up. But these are what i would consider my max for this barrel and Ambient Temps

250' Elevation
88*
40% Humidity
2130 DA

AA2200
Nosler Brass
CCI400

85gr Barnes TSX 30254
2785 FPS at max charge of 31.2gr
2750 FPS looked good on the case and primer with 30.8gr

90gr Sierra Varmintor 1800
2825 FPS Max Charge 31.8gr
2775 FPS 31gr

115gr SMK 1815 / NCC 45357
2450 FPS 27gr just my 16" load tested in the 12.5" Brass and primer looked good, has room to go faster.

120GR SST 2716
2480FPS 27.5gr Has room to go a little faster it seems.

Up next is 110gr Pro Hunters 1810 and the 90gr Gold Dots Along with the Barnes 85gr MPG 30249 then pick which one i want to stick with.
Im not so sure if he 130gr stuff is worth fooling with, but i do have alot of 130gr SST 27302 and Interlok 2730. I did some test loads with 130gr SST and cut the Tip off of it. Might just have to load them to blast with.

Havent seen any hogs in forever so i still have a few boxes of 105gr MKZ from Cavity Back Bullets that are waiting.

Great stuff. Thanks for the info! I'm building a 12.5 6.8spc in the near future.

You likely have plenty of room to work with yet for some of those - I get around 2630 fps in my 12.5" with 28.1 grains of AA2200 under the 115 NCCs. Just shot a string today with 28.5 grains of AA2200 and the brass still looked beautiful, but didn't chrono that load yet.

Some great numbers, glad to see 2700+ out of a 12.5

I have a Bison 11.5 and 2 12.5 SBRs, but I have been shooting factory ammo for the last few years, never really bothered with reloading or chronographing any of the stuff.

SSA OTM and xm68gd stockpile is getting lower, so I plan to start reloading soon.

I have been saving my brass for a while, have a bit over 1k now, so I guess it's time to read up on the reloading section.

I was a little worried about the loss of velocity in shorter barrels, but I dont see myself really pushing past 250-300 with the SBRs, it's not their purpose anyway.

Hey OP, what OAL are you using for the 120 SSTs?

Ever get around to testing the 90 grain Gold Dot?

27.5 grains of AA2200 over a CCI450 at OAL of 2.290 is pushing the 120 SST at 2405 FPS out of my 12.5" ARP. My Shooting Chrony clocked the same load and same barrel at 2522 FPS before I had it serviced- I knew something was up.

I'm in the same boat. Honestly a bit nervous about getting into the reloading game. Seems like a lot of knowledge to go over and retain. Will be looking more into the forums here before starting that task.

Man really good numbers with the 120gr SST. Getting about what the factory ammo says it will do out of a 16"
