Firearm : Gas-operated semi-automatic with 20.0" barrel length and 1/10" twist
Cartridge : Handloaded 110gr Sierra Pro-Hunter soft-point
Block calibration : All depths corrected (actual BB penetration was 13.0cm at 595 ft/sec)
Single shot fired at 15 yards distance, impacted the block at 2466 ft/sec and penetrated to 12.5". Average recovered diameter was 0.551" and recovered weight was 77.0gr.
Sierra 115 Gr. SMK:Total Penetration: 14"


Nosler 110 Gr. Accubond.Total Penetration: 21"

Muzzle Vel: 2589 FPS.
Distance: 100 yard.
Weight retention: 86.3 grains.
Bullet expansion: .525 dia.

6.8 mm SSA 115 gr OTM (SMK), vel= 2520 fps from a 16" 1/11

While both the Hornady 110 gr OTM and SSA 115 gr SMK OTM offer acceptable terminal performance, the Hornady projectile is more consistent.

In addition, since we had a bit of gel left over, single shots of the following loads were made:

BG: 13.8", NL=0.5cm, Max TC=15cm@12cm from 0.5-20cm; RD=0.54”, RL=0.22”, RW=55.5gr


6.8 mm Speer 90 gr TNT JHP, vel=2610 fps from a 16" 1/11
BG: 13.8"+, NL=4.5cm, Max TC=13cm@13.5cm from 4.5-24cm; RD=NR, RL=NR, RW=NR

Nice gel test about the performance of 6.8 SPC. What was the load in last photo that said 6.8mm 101 grain penetrator? Was that the Silver state armory steel core or tungsten core Armor piercing 6.8 SPC ammo?

I don't know who loaded that up.

I would like to see a picture of the 90 gr TNT in gelatin. I just bought 600 rds of SSA.

I know just buying the bullets would have been cheaper but I wanted the brass too.

I thought I had one up. It is similar to the Sierra 115 GR SMK.

We are loading the 90 grain TNT at 2,900 FPS from a 16" barrel. Some 16" barrels drops the velocity down to 2,840 and others will run the same load at 2,940 FPS.

Thanks, it is possible that I just didn't see it Paulo, as I have trouble differentiating some of the load data from the photos. I find some easy to follow and some not so easy.

I am looking forward to shooting it out of a 20" SAM-R. I bet that smaller critters will become red mist when hit at those velocities.
